NEW
The National Society of the Daughters
of the American Revolution houses an exquisite collection of nineteenth century
furnishings and thirty-three rooms designed in period styles. Kids 5 7 will enjoy
the "Colonial Adventure" tours.
Located on the Mall next to the Headquarters of the American Red
Cross, The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a nice
place to visit if you have a couple of days to spend in Washington D.C. The Museum houses
a 50,000-item collection of American furnishings including silver, china and porcelain.
The objects are given depth and context in the exhibit of thirty-three-rooms that are each
designed in the style of various States at different points in history.
Children love the "Colonial Adventure" tours where costumed guides walk
through the exhibits describing life in Colonial America. "Colonial Adventure"
tours are conducted on the first and third Sundays of the month, but the generic tours are
available weekdays 10-2:30 and Sundays 1-5. Make reservations in advance for the
"Colonial America" tour.
