National Geographic Society The National Geographic Society is filled with interesting interactive games and activities. Completely free of charge, visitors can view exhibits in the Explorers Hall, Geographica or Earth Station One, the 72- seat amphitheater. Only 5 blocks from the White House, The National Geographic society is a fantastic place to take budding scientists who need a break from the Mall and the summer heat. There are many interactive games and exhibits that children and adults would both enjoy. You can touch an active tornado, quiz yourself on touch screen stations or view some of the temporary exhibits. Earth Station One is definitely worth the trip. This interactive show in a 72-seat amphitheater simulates an orbital flight 23,000 miles above the earth. It’s a great break from walking and the show is very entertaining. Earth Station One is built around an 11-foot globe that is suspended on a cushion of air. (The largest unmounted globe in the world)
