“Encounters with the Contemporary” continues through Jan. 6, 2002, in the museum’s Sylvia H. Williams Gallery located on Level 1. This exhibition presents selections from the growing contemporary collection, ranging from early gifts to the most recent acquisitions from throughout the African continent and across the media. Works by important African modernist pioneers such as Valente Malangatana, Bruce Onabrakpeya, Gerard Sekoto and Skunder Boghossian accompany those of younger artists like David Koloane, Yinka Shonibare and Berni Searle.
